TJ "Tuna Joe" Vaughns
Hi, my name is TJ Guesstyn Vaughns. I'm from Miami, Florida and I've been involved in the fishing and boating industry for a little over a decade now. My father inspired my passion for the water when I was very young and it has grown exponentially since then. From fishing in the little canal behind our first family home in Hallandale, to me being a well seasoned captain in the south Florida area. I've been fishing all the waters I could reach for over 20 years. I've mated for boats all over the east coast of Florida from West Palm to Key West. Spending most of my time in Broward County, I've had the opportunity to work on the Yankee Captain, out of multiple Key West charter fleets, The Old Hat in Hallover, Lady Pamala in Dania Beach, and Bolo Sportfishing in Deerfield, just to name a few locals. I've worked seasons in the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama out of Orange Beach for a few seasons and have seen what the Gulf has to offer, both off-shore and near-shore. I've fished as far south as Dominican Republic, Colombia, Turks and Caicos Islands, and as far northeast as Maine and Massachusetts.
I'm a licensed 100 Ton Master Captain at this current time.
I've fished multiple tournaments in South Florida and the Bahamas and I've placed in local tournaments in the South Florida area from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, The Miami Dolphins tournament, and OAPB tournaments, to name a few.
I specialize in targeting the Pelagic species native to Florida and the Bahamas:
Wahoo, Tuna, Mahi, Sailfish, Swordfish, Marlin, many species of bottom fish, and both in-shore and near-shore species.
I speak at local seminars when the opportunity arises and also speak to young individual to bring their attention to the opportunities that the marine industry offers.
I've had a strong passion for being on the water for all of my life and have been working towards keeping my place in the industry. Continuing to improve my skills day after day and keep myself at the top of my game.
I've always been one for the outdoors since my youth and fishing has just been a big part of it from camping, cycling, kayaking, to racquetball and pickleball.
